Saturn Used Cars- The Aura

Saturn used cars like there Aura model was first introduced back in 2007 as replacement to their L-series model. The Aura is a mid-size sedan that takes a lot of its design from General Motors European Brand “Opel”. This short lived vehicle was produced from 2007 to 2009 due to General Motors problems with the financial meltdown and the fact General Motors scrapped the whole Saturn brand to help with the restructuring of the company, so it could stay afloat. This vehicle surprisingly has been given some high marks for performance in its segment of the auto industry and so my research will be on Saturn Aura as a used vehicle to look at.
The exterior of the Saturn Aura actually uses the General Motors midsize platform. Some of the features that the exterior has are a nice arcing roof line, subtle fender flares and a short rear end. The base model (“XE”) uses the standard 17-inch and the “XR” model uses a 18-inch aluminum wheel. The taillights also use a clear lens “LED”.
The interior I feel is not as well designed as the exterior. The Saturn uses a lot of cheap materials for the pieces and panels throughout the vehicle. The Saturn Aura also lacks some of the small pieces you would think this vehicle would have like a center arm rest for rear passengers and grab handles. The dashboard and center console controls are easy to use and read and there is plenty of cabin room for five people.
There are several different fuel statistics for the various engines the Aura has to offer. The 3.5 litre engine has a fuel rating of 11.5-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 7.2-litres, per 100km for highway driving. The V6, 3.6-litre engine has a fuel rating of 12.2-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 7.8-litre, per 100km for highway driving.
There are different engine sizes for the various models the Aura has to offer. In 2007 you had two choices of engine sizes. There was a 3.5-litre engine and a 3.6-litre engine, the 3.5-litre engine had 224 hp motor and the 3.6-litre engine had a 252 horsepower motor. In 2008 they added a four cylinder, 2.4-litre engine and in 2009 decided to drop the 3.5-litre engine.
Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of the Saturn Aura as a used vehicle:
1- There is a problem with the “intermediate steering shaft” making strange noises when turning the steering wheel.
2- The brakes are known to wear down prematurely.
3- It was given a good rating from the Insurance institute for Highway Safety for a frontal and side impact crash test done to it.
I hope this helps if you’re looking at Saturn used cars like the Aura.
