BMW X3 Used Cars

BMW used cars like the X3 crossover was first introduced back in 2004 to North American consumers.  The X3 is a smaller version of the Popular X5 but has most of the toys and gadgets as the X5 does as well. BMW actually was one of the first automotive companies to develop and launch the crossover (the X5) and start a new segment of the auto industry. The 2004 X3 only had one vehicle to compete against and that was the Land Rover Freelander, but that would all change with the Acura RDX and more affordable crossovers like the Subaru Outback and the Ford Escape came to market in 2007. My research will be on the BMW X3 as a used vehicle to look at.

The BMW X3 seats five people and uses the xDrive AWD platform which is designed for light off road work. Some of the standard features that come with the X3 are antiskid traction control, ABS brakes, front and side airbags (rear side airbags are optional), 17-inch wheels (base package), and 18-inch wheels are part of the sports package. Other options that are available are a sunroof, leather upholstery, navigation system, front/rear obstacles detection and xenon headlamps.

There are several different fuel statistics from 2004 to 2007. In 2005 the X3 had a fuel rating of 13.8-litres, per 100km for city driving and 8.8-litres, per 100km, for highway driving (this was for the manual transmission).  In 2007 the X3 had a fuel rating of 12.2-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 8.2-litres, per 100km, for highway driving.

There are several different engine sizes from 2004 to 2007. In 2004 the BMW X3 had two engine sizes to choose from. The base model had a six-cylinder, 2.5-litre engine, which produced 184 horsepower and the 3.0-litre engine had 225 horsepower. In 2007 the 3.0-litre engine became the base engine and this produced 260 horsepower under the hood.

Let’s look at the pros and cons of the BMW X3 as a used vehicle to look at:

1- A leading online consumer watchdog has given the 2004 to 2006 X3 a good rating as a used vehicle to own.
2- A BMW X3 web forum has owners posting problems with all-wheel and ABS brake systems showing there warning lights at once .
3- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has given the X3 a good rating for frontal and side impact crash tests done to it.

I hope this helps if your thinking about buying BMW used cars like the X3.
